sir,
6. 6. 50
I beg to apply again for some kind of compensation for losses incurred during Japanese occupation of Hong Kong as I have already wrote to the British Representative here in Eire as you will see attached.
As it appears that only persons who deside to remain permanently in the U.K. are intitled to war losses compensation, one would consider this unfair to persons who deside to say settle in Australia, Eire, Canada, etc., etc. they have still lost all during hostilities in Hong Kong and elsewhere and cannot get compensated as the are not residing in the U.K. No matter where one goes to reside and home has to be got together again.
Could not the U.K. Government reconsider this matter and give some consideration to persons who have taken residence outside U.K.
Could not the Hong Kong Government do something in this matter as mentioned by the U.K. representative could this be forwarded to them.
In my case I had to get a loan to help me purchase a home and as I was invalided from the Hong Kong Police Force on pension I am unabled to do any work to help along with my pension which is £5. per week, having to pay £8. 11. 6. per month in repayment of loan for 20 years, this does not leave much of the pension money over, for household expences etc.
I have already sent my application ref. losses to Board of Trade who have rejected it on the grounds that myself and family are resident in Eire. I am forwarding this as an appeal and hoping that Government will give some consideration in this matter to assist myself and family in some way to help to get a home together again. in this matter.
I thank you for your kind attention
I remain
Yours Sincerely
Your obedient servant
(sgd)
